Re: Dash Light Mods (Fuel, Oil and Temp Warning Lights)

New Version - Setting Up Setting up the fuel light display mode is the same as the previous version - a short press to enter the display setup mode, then further short presses to select the mode and then release for 5s to save. In display setup mode, a long press changes the kit type to shared-warn...

Re: Dash Light Mods (Fuel, Oil and Temp Warning Lights)

3-Light Kit 2014 Revisions: In response to feedback and feature requests, there have been a few small revisions to the 3-light kit. It is now possible to adjust the oil pressure and engine temperature warning thresholds. This is to suit track cars, or those that have hotter/cooler thermostats for w...

Re: Fuel light positioning

All settings are permanently saved, even if power is disconnected. The new version of the 3-light kit is in testing but I have been called away unexpectedly and am currently stuck in a godforsaken Premier Inn in Chichester, so there will be a couple of days' delay unfortunately. I also am having pro...

People do quite often spend huge sums of money on branded stickers to show their mates down Maccy D's.

Re: 14 degree mod

If you have a timing gun, it's definitely worth a shot to see if you like the results as it's a 5 minute job to put back if not. Anywhere between 10-14 degrees is safe to try out, so don't be afraid to try somewhere in between. I personally settled for 12 degrees. The consensus is that the result wi...

Dirty switch contacts can also reduce the current flow, reducing the motor power.

Re: Diff noise?

It does seem a little odd at at 42k A wheel bearing it two has gone. A wheel bearing can go in one mile if you hit a bad enough pothole. Bumping up kerbs is a good way to kill them too, as is driving on a beach, or clipping a kerb at speed. Any number of things can damage a bearing, not just miles ...

Re: Oil/Engine issue

It certainly sounds like it might have been low on collection. But you would pretty much need to point that out same day to prove it to be so. It might be worth a go, but I reckon the seller would say he checked it when it went out. At best the warranty would cover the original problem that caused t...

Re: Oil/Engine issue

Regardless of fairness, a lack of basic maintenance (like checking the dipstick regularly) will void any warranty - even if it is one that's worth the paper it is written on, which these used car warranties rarely are anyway. With an old car like this, you should be dipping the oil once a week, whil...

Re: Oil/Engine issue

If in doubt sourcing your own engine, I would give Andrew at Autolink a call on Tuesday. He will probably have an engine in stock, if not he will be able to advise or help source one. He can also deliver it to a garage if/when you find one, so it will just be a matter of trailering the car over. Bet...

Re: Diff noise?

It could be...or more likely a wheel bearing.

The way to work it out is to jack it up, spin the wheels and see where it is coming from.

Good bodywork on a mk1 is the holy grail, so if you've found a good one...keep it. Good engines are ten a penny.

Re: Oil/Engine issue

Depending whether you would do the work yourself, it is going to be much cheaper to get a used engine and drop it in than to overhaul the current one. If you're handy and enjoy that sort of thing then a rebuild might be worthwhile for the fun of it...but a used engine will be better value financiall...

Re: Tip Of Spark Plug Gone

Hopefully it has been spat out... I would be tempted to have a poke around the cylinder with a magnet to make sure though.

Surprised that's an NGK...is it particularly old?
