Re: Mk3 purchase

My Mk3 needs a bit of TLC. Oil and filter change done the next job was a nasty dent in the rear quarter panel above the rear light. 525A910C-D0D1-4EAA-B4A2-3DF4953AA7AC.jpeg There are 15 shades of Galaxy Grey according to my mate’s paint supplier. So first jobs, oil, filter change and air filter, Done.

Limited Time at present but found an hour to polish the headlight covers with some 3M compound. First picture original state (13 years takes it toll) and 2nd photo after polishing.

Mk3 purchase

I blame Wayne for this!!!! As he always seems to be getting new MX5’s arriving :-D :-D :-D I’m also working on the principle that ‘he who has more toys, is happier’ I’ve brought another MX5. I know Mk3’s aren’t everyones cup of tea, but couldn’t say no. Bit of a distressed sale (owner just wanted it...

Re: Mk1 restoration

Happy New Year to all Menders!!! A few months away from the project. But now back on it :-D :-D :-D Continuing with the drivers side sill replacement. Starting at the front of the car, I cut out the rotten metal and then gave the remaining steel a good dose of rust inhibitor. Then fabricated the bot...

Enhancing Your MX5

The purpose of this post is to engender some good discussion, ideas and debate. There is likely to be no one right answer, just personal experience and taste. I'm guessing we all are here because we enjoy the drivability, reliability, cost of ownership and maintainability of MX5's, and because we l...

Re: Mk1 restoration

Latest update and latest garage TOY. So removed my engine and gearbox as part of my restoration, new clutch, belts water pump on the “to do list”. With just the rolling chassis left the day started like this. 1DDECF64-E36C-47F4-A7B7-328DDB43BB5D.jpeg 5E7BBD66-8AEC-4C4C-B743-6556E9560697.jpeg A1A89FF...

Re: My 91 us special BRG rolling resto

Brgdane, great work, well done. Dont worry to much about runs and dirt, they can generally be flatted out and then polished. Start with 1500 grit wet and dry using a complaint thin rubber sanding pad to ensure you dont get 'tram lines' I use on of these; https://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Cocraft-Rubber-...

Re: Mk1 restoration

For those of us old enough to remember vinyl records its now time for the ‘B side’ of my build. Started cutting away at the rear arch, this is in much better condition that the other side. First I remove an inspection section just below the swage line and down to the top of the sill. Once removed I ...

Re: Mk2 emissions fail

So no fault codes coming up on the diagnostics. Fail was fast and second idle test High CO high HC, low lambda New plugs, filters and leads ordered from AutoLink, the only obvious is that two of the HT leads look a bit fraded and not ideally. However plugs look pity clean. Wondering if it’s down to ...
