Re: Brace Yourselves - Short Nose Crank

Although you can see a wobble? how sure are you that the crank or key is worn ? i would not start searching and writing it off just yet, SNC engine have never worried me as they are just as good as the LNC if looked after correct, but if it turns out to be the worst i would just fit another early 1....

Re: Oil on spark plug

It will be from the rocker cover seal, i guess that it as not been changed at water pump/cam belt change, replace it but only use a OE seal and i would also check the CAS O'ring seal i guess that will not have been done. Speak to Andrew at Autolink. M-m Vouch for this, I went cheap and used an afte...

Brace Yourselves - Short Nose Crank

HI all, I have a 1990 1.6 MX5, it has a short-nose crank and the wobble is no better, or indeed no worse since I purchased the car a year ago but I really am on borrowed time now, it's only slight at the moment but the keyway is wearing rapidly. Now, I need to do "something" but I'm a touc...

Re: Andy's 1990 mk1 MX5 - Soft Restoration

It's been a while since I paid my poor old MX5 the blindest bit of attention, infact as I have a company credit card for fueling my company wagon I had to look back through my bank statement to find the last time I put petrol in the poor thing, that was £10 worth of Tescos finest at the start of Sep...

Re: Andy's 1990 mk1 MX5 - Soft Restoration

So, yesterday was MOT day.

.....and things didn't go as smoothly as I might have hoped.

Turns out the whoever did the welding on the car before I had it wasn't really a very good welder, not by a long chalk.

Lots more to come over the next month or two when this turns in to a full restoration!

El-cheapo pads can cause this, one brand I won't name (definitely NOT Drivemaster **polite cough**) need much fettling and greasing to fit properly!

Re: What is the genuine mazda diagnostic tool for 89-2000 5'

Been thinking about this, and had a brainwave. The socket is a Mazda proprietary socket as you well know but it was used on the 626 platform meaning it was also lashed in to the equally disappointing Ford Probe (I know that's fighting talk), the Probe I **think** did have basic OBD-I generation styl...

Re: What is the genuine mazda diagnostic tool for 89-2000 5'

I don't know if this system is "smart" enough to send data beyond DTCs held? It's only doing that on a high-low pin so to get data out of these ECUs might be a tall order. Not that it's related but the equivalent Ford/GM/French systems of the era are pretty dumb and can only raise DTCs via...

Re: High CO MOT Failure MK2 1.8 2000

Sounds like fun! Without teaching you to suck eggs double check there is no pre-cat exhaust leak that's drawing in atmospheric air and sending the lambda probe scatty. HCs seem pretty acceptable do this is a bit of a head-scratcher, guess the station tried getting the catalyst scorching hot and tryi...

Re: Bodywork Help!

I would agree in replacing the front wing because it will be blowing from the back out, i would not worry to much about broken bolts holding the wing either as Andrew at Autolink as some great aftermarket 1omm self tappers that can be used ,you will need the bracket that holds the front of the wing...
