Re: Stripping Black from V Spec Dash

Hey, that explains a mess I started on my V-special. I tried to clean the black with meths and it went seriously sticky.
Fortunately only in a small test area. Now I know why and also what might be underneath.

Agreed, but social media rooted in good technical knowledge. Where else would I go when my MX5 breaks.

Re: Vice Grip Pliers

Not sure if this helps and I am sure I'll be corrected by by the "old lags" but I have two pairs of mole grips that I got more than 40 years ago and they are still going strong. They were made by Peterson /Dewitt, Nebraska. USA I also bought a new, cheap, pair last year to carry in the car...

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

Sorry Flea I didn't think to take any pictures. Here is a link to general pictures on the Website, we didn't get in the pics I am afraid. I spoke to the guy that organizes it and the plan is to put all the MX5s together next time. Then we should get some pics on the site. http://www.whitelionantique...

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

Just spent the morning at a fortnightly Classic car show near Hartley Wintney, in Hampshire. I dared to leave the bonnet open for others to see the engine. I felt a bit exposed! Anyway, among all the MGs, Mustangs and E-types, there were 16 MX5s ranging from 1989 to almost new. So a good showing.

[quote="Mazda Mender"]The washer crap will not make a difference,Wheres that come from? as it will still get blocked up with leaves regardless, that just live there and decay/breakdown which turns into fine silt, then stays wet for longer and eats the metal, the same as it would without th...

Re: Wing rust

Hi, I got the two bolts undone at the bottom of my front wings, and then pulled it back a little. The bolts were rusty and may not have been undone since 1990 so I spent much effort making sure I didn't snap them off. That gave me good access. I got enough dirt out to fill a small flower-pot each si...

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

Tidied up the plastic front of my Mk1. There were scratches and general marks, some quite deep into the plastic. It was looking a bit tatty at a recent classic car meeting at Hartley Wintney. Used touch-up paint, then wet and dry paper, then T-cut scratch remover before polish. One day I'll remove a...

Re: 92 S Special Eunos Roadster

You mention "It has long nose crank so an engine change at some time." correct me if I am wrong but I thought is was the short nose crank that could have a problem with key breaking and the long nose didn't so much. Mazda switched to long nose mid 1990. I just made it with mine, it came of...

Re: Torque wrench for Rocker Cover

Thanks for the replies. I read this on the Miata forum. "I have a 10mm socket on a 1/4" drive screwdriver handle type thing.... the handle is only half an inch diameter or so.... and I just do them up as tight as I easily can with my fingers gripping the handle.... Fletch." I take the...

Torque wrench for Rocker Cover

I need to change the CAS O-ring on my '90 MX5. I read on this forum that the job is easier with the rocker cover off. However I also read that I should torque the bolts on the cover to 43-78 inch-pounds which I think is around 3.5-6.5 Foot pounds which in turn converts to 4.74-8.8 NM. I do have a to...

Re: My '91 UK spec......rebuilding

Great set of pictures showing the rusty rear section at the start of this post. Good job done! I have saved the pics to my hard drive for reference. I want to get some wax oil into that very area on my '90 Eunos. I have the access holes marked out ready, and will drill and squirt when the weather is...
