Re: ABS Pump Bleeding

The way that I did it, when I accidentally allowed the fluid to drain on a new shape Beetle, was to find some loose gravel and deliberately skid the car, setting off the abs. Then bled the brakes again. It worked!

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

This week is chassis rail week on the California. O/S now done, just needs final paint coat. N/S is all cut out, hopefully get it welded up tomorrow. I have had the MM repair sections for at least two years, but didn’t get a welder until last year. A1A54B6B-53B5-42E8-8646-95FA476A8403.jpeg 0F6E987D-...

Re: Sunday Rally

Had a great day at the rally today and a nice chat with the mender about my proposed chassis rail repair on the wife’s NB California. A very helpful and friendly bunch on the menders stand. :handgestures-thumbup:

Re: California Clutch change

Finally finished this job today. The clutch bleeding issue turned out to be a split seal in the master cylinder. Once a genuine Mazda repair kit was fitted it bled normally. Had a quick test drive on the access road in front of our house and all seems well. It will be off the SORN in a couple of wee...

Re: California Clutch change

Had a bad day with this job yesterday, could not remove the stripped exhaust manifold stud even with heat and a stud extractor, even dropped the subframe for better access. In the end gave up , refitted subframe and installed gearbox. Today I removed the exhaust manifold from the engine and drilled ...

Ok thanks, I’ve been thinking of investing in one of those for a while so perhaps now is the time.

Re: California Clutch change

Is there a knack to bleeding the clutch?
I cannot get any fluid down to the slave cylinder, have tried pumping the pedal, suction on the pipe at the slave cylinder end and pressurising the reservoir with an easy bleed, without any success.

Re: California Clutch change

Some progress today, new spigot bearing ,clutch and clutch release bearing all fitted. Waiting for a stud extraction tool to arrive from Amazon as I need to replace one of the exhaust down pipe studs from the manifold and I think it will be easier with the gearbox out. California Clutch change

Since buyiing the MX5 back in 2015 it has had a tendency to suffer a bit of clutch slip when hot, nothing too bad, but with the current weather preventing me from doing outside jobs I decided to tackle the clutch. Over the last couple of afternoons I have made good progress and now have it in pieces...

Re: Cutting out when hot

I have never had to find the ecu, but feel sure that the Menders know exactly where it is! Had the exact symptoms that you describe with my wifes MK2 last year. It turned out to be the camshaft sensor, an easy cheap fix.

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

I have been busy checking out the California prior to taking it for an MOT, also doing those non MOT related jobs that I promised myself would get done over the winter, but didn't! For the MOT it needed new front tyres and a centre exhaust. The other jobs are purely cosmetic. Cleaning up some rust s...
