Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

Soft top refurbish and refit. (2000 MK2) Before the winter I removed the soft top and frame off the car with the intention of refurbishment. The hardtop off my dead G-Ltd was a close enough colour match - and it kept me dry over the winter. IMG_20200527_164539263.jpg The soft top had mould around th...

Re: Steering knocking Mk1

Excellent! Glad to hear it solved the problem. Just make sure the system is fully bled after the change by going from lock-to-lock a few times before driving. In fact the pump is probably at max load on full lock when the car is stationary. That's when issues with the fluid will be apparent and so i...

Re: MK 2/ 2.5 clear/chrome angel eye head lights

Hi there, I might be interested. My MK2 (twilight blue, 12K I think) needs a new front bumper as the original is pretty marked up and I'm fed up cleaning the headlight glass. What's the colour code on the bumper and does it come with the spoiler kits, fogs etc. The narrow roads where I live are not ...

Re: Anyone repaired or refurbished a MAF?

Thanks guys. Part of me is curious as to why a single unit can cause so many different issues. I guess the running rich bit was saying that the MAF was measuring more airflow than there was while the rough running must be something completely different. For the second bit I might need to find out wh...

Anyone repaired or refurbished a MAF?

Hi All, Over the last 18 months or so I've had a number of rough running issues (MK2 2000 1.8 pretty much stock everything including the rust). The first issue (not starting and rpm around 300 when it did) turned out to be a bad cam angle sensor - fixed. Then a few months later the engine started ru...

Re: Steering knocking Mk1

Sounds simple and sorry for asking but have you checked the power steering fluid level? Mine did something very similar and that was the problem. If the fluid is low, the pump chucks air into the system and this will make the rack 'bang' and judder. Might be worth trying a change of power steering f...

Re: What have you done to your MX5 today/yesterday?

Fixed an annoying fast -ticking LH indicator system - eventually. 1. Swapped all the bulbs over, RH to LH. No change, LH side still fast clicking and only rear bulb flashing, RH side all good. 2. Got a new flasher relay from Autolink and swapped over the leads (cos removing the old relay is a real c...

Re: I need the space

I have 2 ac systems, neither of the systems had been charged for several years as far as I could tell. I presume the compressors are ok but... Neither radiator is up to much but everything else (pipework, dash unit etc) is in good shape. I think there was only 1 union that was seized and had to be '...

Re: I need the space

Hi All, So it seems no-one is interested in this stuff and so I'll put the wishbones and tank on fleabay and the rest is going in the skip. I also have a pair of original '92 seats with the headrest speakers still in. They are a bit grubby having been sat in a garage for 12+ years but today I'll cle...

I need the space

Hi All, Having just scrapped a MK1 Eunos '95 1.8 shell after stripping it all down and recently acquiring a replacement ('92 1.6 Eunos) you can imagine that I have accumulated pretty much 2 of everything. I'll list a few things here as I need to create some space for all the bits that are coming off...

Re: That'll never run again!

Look what arrived in the post today. IMG_20190905_163740912.jpg Worked straight out of the box - very useful bit of kit. Also stripped out the AC. IMG_20190905_162610092.jpg So I have a full AC set of pipes and compressors (2) and a bunch of other stuff that I need to clear to make some space in the...

Re: MK1 Eunos fuel tank replacement

I did this recently on my G-Ltd and it was a right pain - getting the tank out that is. MM is right that you have to disconnect brake lines, exhaust etc. You might want to think about dropping the PPF off the rear of the gearbox and dragging that out with the propshaft, diff, wishbones, wheels etc s...

Re: That'll never run again!

Did a bit more diagnostic work over the weekend. I turned the engine over by hand to make sure things were not seized and checked that there was at least something akin to oil in the sump and on the cams. Then using the diagnostic port I found that the fan works, lights and indicators are ok and the...

Re: That'll never run again!

The good news is that the main loom seems reasonably intact. A satisfying moment when the immobiliser comes out. IMG_0031.JPG Once all the sticky tape was removed it was pretty easy to see how it had been installed. A few wires interrupting the blue and blue/black cables at the ignition switch. One ...

Re: That'll never run again!

So a few pictures. Tonight I had a bit of a dig around to check out the ecu and immobiliser. Here's the ecu IMG_20190828_195929506.jpg I think you can see what I mean about 'dust'. Even with the ecu shield in place all what you can see managed to get in. I hope it hasn't done any damage. I guess the...
