Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Hi So I finally got round to giving it a decent run. Sorry for yeh delay in responding, but wanted to drive it for a while to have a proper look before getting back to you. As above, I changed the MAF which I feel has now "settled down". It now very occasionally surges to above 1000 RPM, ...

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

So....it's not the ICV or the Throttle Body.

I was having a new clutch fitted when it was spotted that the "switch" that lets the ECU know that the car is in gear, was discovered as completely broken.

This was replaced.

It now idles spot on. Dead on 900rpm.

Thanks to Freelance Mazda.

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Hi - thanks for your help on this. in the process of sourcing the part.

Just wondered how difficult it would be for me to DIY replace this. I can't seem to find a guide.

Also, I am guessing that the idle will likely be well out after I have changed it and will need adjusting?

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Any way to find out which?

If not, which would be the easier/cheaper fix?

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

I honestly don't remember, the clutch isn't down long enough when in gear for me to notice. I will try and test it when I get a chance.

It's mostly been noticed when the car is in neutral and is at temperature.

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Honestly can't remember. I don't think I've had it in gear with the clutch down for very much time. I will try and check.

When out of gear, it is sometimes sitting fine at 850-950,and other times idling just about Zero.

I had thought that idle droop was fairly common issue?

Re: Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Hi

Thanks for your response. The idle was adjusted by the specialist garage using the idle control valve so that it was set correctly.

Are you saying I should just increase the idle speed using the idle control valve?

Thanks

Mk1 1.8 Idle Problem

Hi All I had my car looked at by a specialist as part of a change of the cam cover gasket, and CAS-O ring. It was idling high and the timing was modded to 14. It was all put back to standard. New plugs were fitted. But idling has since been eratic. Nothing comes up on the diagnostic. When warm the e...
