I'll take a look. Is it easy to tell the difference without stripping it out?

yes, just unplug one of the connectors to the coil pack and count the pins on the coil pack.

Re: Mk1 instrument panel circuit board info needed

The rev counter is driven from the coil packs, check that you have a 4-pin coil pack fitted, as if a 3 pin one is used, the car will run but the rev counter won't work.

Re: Faulty electric roof.

I've asked my contacts at Mazda and they reckon one of the following is most likely: Limit switches bent, loose bolts on mechanism, general worn mechanism, all worth looking at.
They say it's pretty simple for a dealer to diagnose if they have the car there.

Re: Hiring out Hard tops?

We used to do this in a roundabout way. We'd sell someone a hardtop at the beginning of October and guarantee to buy it back in March, we had a few customers that did this, they couldn't be fussy about colour though.

Re: idle speed jumps to 2000rpm infrequently...

Hi Eddie, no, the oil will just be gumming up the pcv valve. Any oil coming through the breathers will be going into the inlet tract after the afm and won't be detected.

Re: idle speed jumps to 2000rpm infrequently...

Hi Martin, if you have a problem with piston rings or valve seats it can cause the engine to breathe heavier, increasing the amount of oily fumes going into the PCV valve and breather pipes.

Re: idle speed jumps to 2000rpm infrequently...

Hi Martin,

Check the breather and PCV valve again. It could be getting gummed up after 2 weeks of use if you have a crankcase pressure problem.

Have you checked the PCV valve? And the breather hoses from the cam cover.

Hi Martin, next thing to try is swap the air flow meter. I know you've cleaned it but it could the the air temp sensor that is built into it.

Re: Replacement Key

You will need a used set of ECU (the big 4-character code needs to match yours), immobiliser box and key from a breakers. Then get a new key cut to the pattern of your old one (number is on the drivers door lock barrel) but with the chip copied from the new key to match the immobiliser. You need to ...

Re: ABS removal - Master cylinder question

You'd be best off replacing the brake lines with non-abs ones. If you have the non-abs master cylinder you just need the 3 brake lines, front left, front right and front to rear. You'll lose loads of brake feel if you have the ABS brake lines as they go twice as far as they need to.

game over. engine full of sand or glass beads. New engine needed. and tell Pete not to put the shiny cam cover on the new engine without first removing all the baffle plates and cleaning out the sand/glass. Believe it or not, I know someone who ruined 2 engines by swapping the culprit cam cover onto...
