How to get your instruments lights working Mk 1/2/2.5

Postby Mazda Mender » Tue Mar 22, 2016 11:49 pm

This is mainly a MK 1 issue when some one has destroyed the bridging blanker switch to make the loop for the instrument panel lights.

This happened a lot on the import Eunos Roadsters when the importer or auto spark fitted a rear fog lamp for MOT in this country and drilled out the blanker loop switch and unplugged the plug from the back not realising that the blanker switch is important and doing something, also that it could of been unplugged or the blanker plug has just been removed.

The easiest way to tell that the loop is at fault is that the dial cluster lights will be out plus the heater panel lights.
The plugs are the same on the MK 1/2/2.5 just different colours as a point of ref.

The small blue plug ( white on the MK2/2.5) behind the cluster of three blanks to the right of the steering wheel on the dash panel...

Now there are fixes to solve this....

1) Get a new loop blanker plug, plug the plug in the back and there will be light again.

2) Fit a loop to the plug and the lights will shine and just leave it behind the dash and use the switch hole for what ever you want.

Doing it this way makes it fully reversible the fit a blanker loop switch or a dimmer switch at a later date if wished. :handgestures-thumbup:

3) Get a dimmer switch, plug the plug in and fit in the switch hole and make them as bright or as low as you want, just as a foot note the MK 1 dimmer switch is the same as the Mk 2 and 2.5 switch, so search for the later switch for the 2's as they are advertised cheaper but are 100% the same switch ;0)
