Warning......Hood tension cables for the MK 2's

Postby Mazda Mender » Sun May 01, 2016 7:55 pm

There are some aftermarket hood/roof tension cables that are doing the rounds that have a alloy block that pop rivets to the header rail, now it looks like it could be a bad batch as i have used them for many years, the Co that makes them have been informed.
The problem is that the cable end that is pressed into the alloy block seems to not of been pressed to the right compression so once fitted to a new hood and locked into position and under tension the cable is pulling out of the block 'this has happened 4 times in a row to me personally, and at the minute was only MK 2 hoods, but i am not saying that this may not happen to the MK 1 cables...... so as a cure and a "just in case", this is what i recommend to do before fitting......

The tension cables as they come out of the bag....

Give it some extra bang, but not sledge hammer time, you don't want to kill them, just to compress them a bit more to hold the cables in place better....

This cured the issue for me to fit another new hood.
