These are now being made again to make sure the hard tops stay rooted to the roadsters from light fingered thieves...
This was a test lock from Autolinkmx5 and was spot on....https://www.autolinkmx5.com/hard-top-an ... 1094-p.asp
Tools needed...
Either a T 27 torx driver (later MK 2.5 )or a medium phillips driver (MK 1 & Mk 2's)
It is made to be fitted to driver's side, but can be fitted to the passenger's side also, simple and quick to fit, and no need to remove the hard top from the roadster to fit.
The hard top lock is made from thick s/steel with a security lock with two keys ...
Open the driver's side door and pop the seat forward....
Pop the hard top side latch open....
Get your T27 torx driver (Mk 2.5) or philips driver(Mk 1/Mk 2) and undo the top most bolt first around 1/4 of a inch but do not remove it yet...
Then undo the two bottom bolts and remove them....
Once the bottom bolts are removed , then remove the top bolt...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mk 1 & Mk 2 phillips head bolts...
Same process as above with the torx driver....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So split the hard top lock......
Now get hold of the back section of the hard top lock and the locking latch.....
Offer the back section against the hard top where the latch bolts down, put the guide nipple of the latch into the striker plate/bracket and hinge it up against the back section of the hard top lock section and against the hard top.....
Insert the top most bolt first and screw it in around half only ,do not tighten it fully down just yet, as we are using the bolt to hold it all in place while we get the others on with adjustment to fit correct..
Now fit the bottom bolts but do not tighten until everything is lined up. Once all the bolts are in place and NOT cross threaded, then tighten everything down nice and tight and close the latch back down...
Now get the other section of the hard top lock and put it in and slide down into place in the back half of the hard top lock section and over the hard top latch...
Once in place, just press the key lock into place with a click from the lock barrel....
****Add the edge trim seat belt webbing protector to the inner edge of the Hard top lock to prevent damage to the seat belt****
And thats it really.
Add one of the hard top lock keys to the roadster key bunch and the other to the spare set of key for the roadster...
Put your seat back into your personal position and lock the roadster up ...all done until summer..
