Adjusting Windows Mk 1/2/2.5

Postby flea » Sun Sep 07, 2014 1:49 pm

My windows were a bit high and were ripping the rubber at the top where it meets the quarter light so I decided to sort it out.

This adjustment stands for the MK 1 1989 >1997.......Mk 2 1998 > 2000......Mk 2.5 2001 > 2005, the only difference being that the door trims are different to remove.

All you'll need is a cross head screwdriver & 10mm socket & ratchet :handgestures-thumbup:

Remove the clips by pulling out the center part then wiggling until they come out.
Unscrew all the screws & put to one side.

There is a piece of trim carpet that needs to be lifted to give access to the bottom screw on the arm rest ( Note:- the bottom screw that holds the door pull handle in place on the Mk.2.5 is found in the base of the bottom of the handle not here like the MK 2 version)

Now pull the door card away from the door (you'll hear the studs un-click) you need to do this at both sides & the bottom :handgestures-thumbup:
Then lift the whole card so it comes away from the top edge.

Be careful you'll need to disconnect the tweeter if you have one :handgestures-thumbup:

Now you can put the door card to one side out of the way.

Pull the membrane away from the door. (messy black stuff)

All along the top edge like so.

Now operate the window so the top of the glass is exactly where it should be :handgestures-thumbup:

Now you can loosen the first adjusting bolt. Which is located as shown here. (second hole in from the outer edge of the door)

Now loosen the second bolt Fifth hole from the outer edge of the door)

You need to now wiggle the bolt & you'll see & feel the rubber coated window stop touch the stopper on the side window glass (this is where it needs to be) Lock up both bolts in that position.
It will become obvious when you look down between the glass & door. :handgestures-thumbup:

Then put everything back in reverse order after sticking the membrane back into place.
