Hello from Italy

Postby Stoppaz » Sun Oct 11, 2020 11:17 am

Hi everybody!
My name is Marco, I'm from Modena and I have a 1996 "Limited" MX-5 NA (Merlot Mica).
The only part that I have replaced with a non-original one is a Nardi Gara 3 steering wheel.
I hope to enjoy this forum. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Another international member.

Welcome to the world of keeping it simple and on the road with good honest free advice from some top notch Menders.

We were planning a trip to Italy this year to meet up with an old mate who lives near Milan, but covid got in the way.

Nice looking MX you have.
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (Why did I sell it - cos the wife said so!!!!)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

Thank you.
I got this car in February this year, and since then I have installed some stuff:

* Alpine UTE-92BT car stereo with Alpine SXE-1725S speakers and cubby box
* New differential oil and gearbox oil
* New engine oil
* MAZDA luxury beige car mats
* New OEM tombstone and centre console
* New OEM upper and lower shift boots
* New OEM door weatherstrips
* New OEM door to glass weatherstrips
* New OEM B pillar soft top seals
* New OEM radiator and thermostat
* New OEM plastic slam panel
* New OEM soft-top window seals
* New OEM valve cover gasket
* OEM Japanese splittable sun visors
* Delrin window bushings
* Nardi Gara 3 steering wheel + Daikei hub
* Additional interior sidelights
* Delrin Cobalt door bushings
* Spare wheel storage

I like to take care of this car and the many small details.

Now that the cold weather starts, I have installed the hard top, but next spring I will have to solve a small problem with my soft top.
I think the tensioner cables are broken, because the soft top has shrunk over the side windows, so a few drops of water get in between the weatherstrips.

It could be age....if so new tension cables will not help, but you never know.

Thank you.
Another thing I want to investigate is a slight "thump" that sometimes I feel when I switch from neutral to first gear, or between first and second gear. This sound/vibration is coming from the back of the car. I think it has to do with the driveshaft or the differential.

Sounds like something is loose and catching up with rotation, have you had her off the floor at the back and spun the wheels?

Yes, me and my mechanic checked, we have raised the car and spun the wheels, from here everything is fine he says.
I think we need to investigate more between gearbox / drive shaft / differential.
