Hi from Hampshire

Hi everyone!

I bought my mk2 1.8 iS about two months ago with only 42,000 on the clock and have been having great fun driving (and mending) it since!

As an engineer I have plenty of practice designing new parts and systems but I'm enjoying getting my hands dirty for once with the little mazda. I started out by servicing it myself and fixing a few little odds and ends.
The back box was rattling at certain RPMs so I bought a second hand Racing Beat one off eBay and I think it suits the car quite nicely. It's deeper than the stock exhaust but not so loud as to be obtrusive.

I've also done a foamectomy on the seats to give a little more support and reduce the amount that I have to straddle the steering wheel by!
This morning I put together a DIY intake which gives the car a lovely roar when you open the throttle up but is still nice and quiet while cruising.

In retrospect I perhaps should have gone for a larger bend than the 135 degree pipe I ended up using but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've mounted it using some strips of sheet aluminium wrapped around the pipe and the end of the filter secured to the washer/air box mount and the snorkel mounting holes respectively. Total cost £55 and a bit of scrap metal :handgestures-thumbup:

That pretty much sums up my journey with my Mazda so far... I'm looking forward to carrying on mending, improving and most importantly driving it!

Yep, it's definitely an addiction... I wasn't planning to change much when I bought it but now I'm looking at coilovers and all sorts!

I sent Nick (Skuzzle) a message asking about undersealing yesterday so I'll wait and see what he quotes but I can always do it myself if it seems too much. What needs doing to the box sections other than undersealing?
