Hi from the Fens :)

Postby Bucks91 » Tue May 10, 2016 6:05 pm

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd join in since I spend most my time of here reading up as much as I can.
I own a 52 plate SVT in silver with 77k on the clock and LOVE IT! I've owned a few cars but none have never put a smile on my face like my 5 :)

All I've done so far with it so far is changed the wheels over to some Rota slipstreams, done a full service on it and put a small reg plate on the front.

But its spent the last few weeks in my garage. Trying to sort the rear sills out, previous owner thought lots of filler would be a great idea, plus it seems they never cleaned the drainage ports out either :/
So far I've taken the O/S sill back to the shell. The steel was to thin and rotten to do anything with so it looks like I'l be welding a whole load of new stuff in it...

Does any one have any pictures of what the inner sills look like when they are being layered up, since most of the sill fell apart when grinding and cutting it back :(

On the plus side the N/S doesn't look as bad, I haven't been able to poke any holes in it so far and it jacks up fine so might just need a little bit of work (I hope).

Well that's it so far, plan to do the front chassis rails after the sills, they don't look too bad (well compared to what I have seen, they look good) but would rather get them sorted so no bad surprises later on. Then the boot, got a bit of rust near the lights. Then work on the suspension, new bushes (thinking IL Motorsport) and maybe MeisterR CRD coilovers and then underseal the whole car.

Then get it back on the road and enjoy it once again :)

Thanks :) I've just been having a look in the body work section and all I seem to find are the MK1's inner sills being worked on. Do you know if the MK1's and MK2's inner sills are the same? I'll Dinitrol cavity wax it afterwards to help it as much as possible (don't fancy doing it all again any time soon ;) ).

Thank you for your time and help in finding those pictures, but I have already seen them. Its the internal sills I was wondering about, sorry my fault, I should of explained myself better. But once I opened my eyes properly, I found a post from MX5 restorer viewtopic.php?f=90&t=3504

They say the MK2's are similar so I will use this as a guide.

Thank you for taking your time in helping me out, much appreciated :)

Sorry, my bad. By internal I mean the inner sill sections that goes on before the outer sill.

Such as this section;

2112b3db130273899a1f8525935cfbfa_zps461cbbe1.jpg (679.3 KiB) Viewed 6119 times

It's this section that I'm stuck on, since it near enough all fell out, so I couldn't see what it was like near the drainage area.

Since I will be replacing the inner most part of the sill (shell section, with jacking and drainage) I was wondering how that section pictured above goes on, is that section the same on a MK2?

This is what I'm planning on making to replace the inner most part of the sill;

Sorry for all the confusion :???:
