Hello from west yorkshire

Hi, john from west Yorkshire.

Hi, john here from west Yorkshire.

I stumbled across the mm site at the start of the year and have been a regular reader since .....so i thought it was about time I introduced myself!. Over the years I have owned 7 mx5s......3 mk1, 3 mk 2.5 and a mk2. My current car is a 26 year old 1.6 import that I have had for about 2.5 years. She is pretty standard, just has a rear boot spoiler, and a louder exhaust. She has a great pair of rear arches, is solid but by means a great looker........but she could be.....

I have not had to spend much to keep her going and to date the dreaded r word has not been mentioned by the mot tester. I have attached (I think) a couple of photos.

I have a dilemma at the moment. Spend and deal with a few issues (horrible, vague, wandering steering) and some farting under 2000rpm (car not me) or buy another mk2.5. .......the problem is finding a decent mk2.5 and the chassis rails are not easy to view until my hard earned cash has been handed over.........

The MK 1's will always be worth more in years to come for good clean examples, they were over engineered as a car for the price, it comes down to your preference, great little car with loads of character, or a car that as same character and comfy, The MK 2.5's will not be as sort after unless it was a special, front rails would not put me off with the repair sections now available cheap enough put the price etc would need to be right for me to think about doing one, the front rails are cheaper to repair than the rear sills and arches, a lot cheaper just as a foot note,,,owners are put off by the front rails, but are more than happy to spend a load more on sills and arches?????.
Now you can mod your MK 1 up using some of the bits from a later version to create what you want,,,, there are plenty of options, and we can guide you with them all.

But it all comes down to personal choice.
