New mk1 eunos owner flying the Welsh flag

Postby Zed. » Mon Feb 12, 2018 11:29 pm

Hello from near Swansea

I’ve always fancied a mk1 mx5/Eunos/miata so eventually managed to convince myself that now was a good time to buy (also coincidentally my student loan had landed & was burning its way through my fingers  )

I’m not new to cars, had way more than my fair share and have 9 now (I think  )
I’ve been involved with rallies as driver, navigator, service crew & builder since leaving school 29 years ago, worked in garages as a side (I’m a qualified fitter&turner (machinist) and welder amongst other jobs with my own small machine shop at home (buried in the garage)

My automotive background started with pre-war austin7’s, evolved to ‘proper’ mini (cooper & cooper ‘s’ and had a Minijem). By 18 I’d grown into talbot sunbeam & avengers then mk1 & mk2 escorts with a bias towards rallying (although my first road-rally as driver was in a 2L Chevette (1996) :auto-layrubber: )

Skip 20+ years & I’m a full time student (immature student??) in Swansea uni & now own a scruffy but solid 1991 made 1600 Eunos in several shades of silver :handgestures-thumbup:

Obviously this will become another moneypit & I’ll be fixing the previous ‘improvements’ for a while......

Work planned...

Tidy up wiring as the car has had a mk2 dashboard conversion (twist&tape Discovery with the electric window wiring) replace the cracked pedalbox (will brace to stop reoccurrence) swap suspension to the ohlins that’s buried in the garage (used similar on rallycars, saw a set for sale and put them away for that ‘rainy-day’ Obviously before I had a use for them...)

Then, drive it as was bought with a full mot

Rich.(habitual fiddler)
Saw it, wanted it, threw a tantrum.............

:text-goodpost:

wasthat good, bad or indiferent memories

but seriously, theyre great cars but sorta overshadowed by the escorts :snooty:

I've had (for the last 10+ years) a long-term Chevette HS hybrid rallycar build (with an XE 2L dry-sumped engine/ford 5 speed strait-cut box/Jag 4ha fully-floating axle etc,) thats slowly happening, bits everywhere (like a mad-womans sh*te :confusion-confused: ) .
the 'one-day' project thats in my garden, 3 sheds & my garage.......

as to photos, one day I'll sort some hosting & get some up
(but in the mean time, imagine a scruffy 'J' plate NA eunos in several shades of silver with a black bonnet, solid but scruffy & bought with a years mot for £550. driven home & parked up untill I get some spare time to have a fiddle & sort out any issues before taxing & driving :auto-layrubber: )

also, this gives me plenty of time to read & try to decide on the next step OR spending-spree (thinking one of 3J's plate lsd's  )
