Will this fit my car?

Postby Lazza » Sat Mar 31, 2012 12:32 pm

Hi all. I'm after some fairly specific knowledge here.

My car needs a new MAF (I broke mine "cleaning" the hot wire i.e. I snapped it off ). I could just remove the MAF altogether but then I'd have to do a fair bit of work to get the Adaptronic to control the VVT. If I was to do that then I might as well completely remove the stock ecu in which case I'd need to do something to control the alternator... it goes on and get's expensive for little gain.

So, I need a new MAF. Mine is a FS1E. I've found what should fit on eBay for a good price:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190660826517

Question is, is that the right one for my car? Mine is a 2001 Mk2.5 1.8 Sport, the thing I don't know is if the MAF was still the same on a 2003 Mk2.5 1.8 Sport. Can anyone confirm this?

Easiest to just get the seller to confirm the part number.

I think you're right to go for a servicable OEM second hand MAR rather than a brand new Chinese ebay 6-week-life special.

It will be the same one Lazza, just confirm with the seller that it is off a 2003 1.8.

I saw that there was something black on the tip of the hot wire and thought I'd clean it off with a finger nail. I didn't realise they were that fragile!
At least it makes little difference in my car. I'm probably losing a touch of mud-range torque but with an MP62 sc running a 120mm crank pulley and a big intercooler it's barely noticeable which is why it's taken this long to get around to replacing it (over a year!).
