Enhancing Your MX5

Postby John&Luke » Tue Nov 06, 2018 11:30 pm

The purpose of this post is to engender some good discussion, ideas and debate. There is likely to be no one right answer, just personal experience and taste.

I'm guessing we all are here because we enjoy the drivability, reliability, cost of ownership and maintainability of MX5's, and because we like to tinker with our pride and joys.

So for up to £1000, what 'enhancements' would you choose to make/ have made and would recommend for your 5?

A few 'givens' lets accept for the purpose of this post;
1. We aren't talk basic service/tune up maintenance
2. The £1000 can be on one item or several items
3. Can be spent on the following catergories;

a) Handling inc suspension, wheels and tyres
b) engine/ power train enhancements
c) interior enhancements
d) exterior enhancements
e) braking
d) safety and security

I accept that this may vary across the 4 Marks of car, so it would be useful to specific the Mk you are referring to. Also suggest people are realistic with their budgets, so saying a supercharger for £1000, even if its possible for an specific individual, is not possible for the majority.

So over to the Menders.

Just spent £750.00 having our original cloth seats, completely refurbed and covered in black leather with red stitching to virtually match the old design and pattern and while we at it had door cards and gaitors made to match.

So if I had a spare £1,000 that would go on a set of Miesters and a decat pipeor

or

I would leave the car at Waynes and get him to spread some Mazda Menders love on her.

1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
