Mk1, wings, rear sills n arches, repair progress

Postby wazza99 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 10:11 pm

Hi all, i'm just in the process of replacing both front wings, and having a proper job done on the rear sills and arches. I've decided on Autoline Wigan to do the rear work and the the painting of the front wings, going to try and post some piccies of Ste's work on here as he sends them if it helps anyone.

1 wing was bubbling at front edge and other was soft at the bottom. On removal quite shocked at the rot !

So far, having waited 4 weeks for the Mazda wings from Mx5 parts (out of stock), got old ones off, 3 out of 4 of the bottom bolts snapped, bottom stud snapped on both sides of the front mounting brackets, where wing joins bumper. Rest came off ok. Good news was i did not have to take the bumper off to get to the top bolt of the wing, having removed top bumper bolts i could pull the bumper forward enough. The 4 bumper stays were all in good nick though gain most bolts snapped. Rust treated and two costs of waxoyl on both chassis and inside wings. Also found a couple of rust traps at base of windscreen. Fitting the new wings was harder than i thought but there on now and the car is now in Wigan ! 3 trains, a run across Warrington, 3 hours and £20 later i'm back in Normanton :-) some picces below , sorry should have taken more i know !! If anyone has anyone questions about the removal etc please feel free.

Ps, quick thanks so far to Mx5 parts, day they despatched the wings they also announced a 10% sale, they agreed to refund 10% as a goodwill.

So far x2 wings £112.2, x2 bumper brackets £8.

PPs, bear with me while i try to work out this picture upload malarky !

I may as well attach all the pics to this post now unless mods want me to put another thread up. Or continue with the last arch repairs we did,
