Mk2 sill replacement

Postby roadster1980 » Wed Dec 10, 2014 9:24 pm

So here is another sill replacement job we had in
ImageImageImage
So when this guy approached us for a underseal job via fb messages he told us the garage he takes it to advise on underseal and some surface rust on the sills so rather than just dive in deep and underseal it then tell him he needs sills
Which in turn would of been a awkward to work on after the under seal I advised him to get the sills done at the same time in which he agreed
First port of call the trays the rain rail runs into checked those and they were completely blocked
Then on to checking the sill drain holes
And this Image
Completely blocked too that's about 1.5ltr of water and dirt in there so now the where unblocked and cleaned out with hot water until it was running clean
Next up is to clean up the inner sill section with grinder, rust kill/convertor ImageImageImageImage

Once that's done onto the replacement itself we always order the panels needed off autolink uk as there quick delivery and cheap too
ImageImageImageImageImage

Next up the other side for the same procedure ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Then onto the filler for final finish
ImageImage
Once shaped onto priming for the son chip to key too
ImageImageImageImage
Once the son chipping is done the next step is too re prime over that then you can flat it back to get the same effect as the son chipping on the door so it matches
As we always blend the next panel for a perfect colour match we always find any marks upto half way down the best panel this being the door then prime this too

While this is being done for the sake of the rest of the car being so small I always and always will give the rest of the car a full polish including the lights too free of charge ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Next to do is to prep the car for paint and fully jet wash off all the crevices to get all the grit and dirt out of there to make a much cleaner job

Once dried off with a blow gun and panel wiped down onto the masking up ready for paint ImageImage

Fresh out the paint booth
ImageImageImage

Once that's done we move onto the underbody sealing
First we clean off the loose dirt and stone chip re soon chip it where needed then apply the waxoil via a gun and straw to get into the awkward places like chassis rails sills ect ImageImageImage
Once all the underseal is done full flat all the fresh paint work and full polish the full car with the final machine polish followed by a wash dry and a wax ImageImageImageImageImageImage

And to add the final cherry to the cake we always free of charge give the car a mini valet too

Great stuff mate! Looks like that car was caught in time so it was just outer sills rather than having to chop out and rebuild all the inner sills & arches.
