Greetings and welcome to menders, this site was built for every owner that might need her to help keep those bills low and also keep them on the road where they belong, she is run by very passionate enthusiasts owners for passionate enthusiastic owners, see her like a on line garage, there is a lot of tech stuff hopefully explained for everyone to use, if there is something you cannot get your head around, or you feel that there is a strong walk through guide missing that needs creating by one of us or from yourselves, please let us know, we are also on false book and youtube, which as short tech vids to help, and again if you feel there is a vid that would help please get it touch.

Whats your recomendations for oil, I know its hugely subjective..usually stick in Castrol gtx, when its 12quid at ASda 10.40w, or magnatec....but been tight as you know i am seen Gulf 10.40w in ho e bargains for 10 quid....do get occasional hla tick if its been stood a week or so....dont be trying to sell me nine of this fancy stuff.....synthetic my ar*e

I have always used magnatec myself, but helfords own brand is OK.

I would imagine that any reputable brand of 10 40 will be OK. Price has to be taken into account these days.

I always have and always will use Mobil1 0w-40. About £30 for 5L from Costco. I won't mention that it's full synth.

Same for me only 5w-40 fully synth been told its better for my turbo for me price doesn't matter its having the same oil everytime

The thinner fully synth is ok for your later models, some supers and turbo's
But i do not recommend full synth for the Mk 1's, they were never made or designed to be run on this oil.
what you need is 10/30 or 10/40 semi synth or part synth for the Mk 1's, owners use the fully synth thinking or have read that it helps to keep the hydrolic tappets quiet, but it is to thin for the engine and is not doing it an favours.
