Mk1 wing mirrors

Postby Draig » Wed Aug 17, 2016 9:51 am

Hey hey folks

Need to do some maintenance to the wing mirrors (getting very stiff to move etc) but looking at the screws holding them on they are rusted to hell and one is rounded out.

I'm drowning them in gt85 all week but if I need to persuade them out are they accessible from inside the door?

Or does anyone have a tip or two for getting them out?

Cheers

Neil

I would spray from inside the door onto the threads over a couple of days with wurth 2040 or plus gas and on the heads, not wd40 and then use a large phillips T bar and crack back and forth spraying penetrating fluid as you go until you get them out ,slowly slowly catchy monkey and all that.

Well, partial success. 2 are loose but the other are still solid, I'll have another crack next week. The rounded one even resisted my trusted impact driver with a screw remover.

Ps getting to the backs of the screws are a pain as there is a plate covering them so you have to bend the spray tube around the window and into a tiny gap
