Fitting a flashing third safety brake light mod ...all marks.

Postby Mazda Mender » Wed Dec 28, 2016 1:55 am

I have fitted these to my own (and owners roadsters) for many years for a number of reasons and it all began and came around for me with a journey home down the M62 from Warrington to Manchester one summer evening in my MK 1 VS II Eunos , on passing the Birchwood junction on slip road and my attention was brought to a Jeepy jobbie in the left hand line with a flashing brake light, which the light did what it was meant to do which was made to do be noticed, so the search was on.
I managed to find a kit which was 12 years back and had to order it from the good old USA, the reason I wanted this was the fact that it does stand out and gets noticed as i was sick to death of tail hoggers and the people that feel the need to stop an inch of rear back bumper at light etc which I find unnerving.
Well the difference was noticeable straight away how cars were holding back and leaving distance because it is a red brake light which means ...stop...but it flashes like hazard warning lights so they don't know what to do so they stay clear...winner.
The kit is easy to wire in, only 3 wires and is programmable to slow or speed up the flashes as well as control of how many flashes you want before it goes solid, lift your foot off and press again and it will go through what you have set, , I went to order another and the Co stopped selling them , so another search was done and found one from china but when it turned up there was no way of programming it for personal choice, so another search went on as I have always fitted them to the cars I use now, and I found a great kit here in the UK which comes with everything you need to fit , very well thought out kit.
Anyway...I have been asked about them so I will share where I get them from and how to fit it...

The kit as it arrives from Stew at Azonic Solutions Ltd.....

Now get your wire snips and cut the GREEN wire, this is the live 12 volt wire that feeds the brake light, there is no need to disconnect the battery to do this, but if you feel safer doing it then do so as there is no live feed until the pedal is pressed with the ignition off or on..

You will also need to revel some of the inner wire for the earth connection on the BLACK cable if you are soldering in as a more solid connection ( scotch snap clips are in the kit for those that choose not to)

Slide your heat shrink onto the modular cables, you will need to use electric tape for the earth as we are tapping into it, (you will notice in these pictures that there are extra cables, please ignore these as this MK 1 had a rear boot wing with a brake light so needed to be wired in also, they are NOT part of this walk through guide.

Now join the YELLOW cable from the modular to the GREEN cable from the light socket/bulb, Join the RED cable from the modular to the GREEN cable on the loom side in to the boots brake light so we have a loop through the strobe/flashing modular, join the BLACK cable from the modular to the BLACK cable that runs to the brake light socket/bulb...

Tuck the modular control box into its new home and secure safe using the double sided pads (making sure the surfaces are both clean first) or cable ties both supplied in the kit....
