Induction kit v standard set up for Sprint & Hillclimb

Hi,
I can't really justify the cost of the K & N Typhoon induction kit for my mk2.5 sport, but just in case I can get a used one for right money, what is the best set up for hillclimb and sprint?
I come from a bike background and when you put individual K & N filters you had to re jet it and it robbed your midrange, so would you have to have the fuel injection modded or does it auto compensate
One other option is a K & N panel filter in the standard airbox
