Some serious envy here, I wouldnt even dare start on paintwork relying on a local paint shop.

Hats off to you for having a go. Love this thread, keep us updated, weather permitting.

Finally got some green paint on her again, not without problems.
Runs and dirt in the paint.
I will do a more in depth description of the process in the near future

Brgdane, great work, well done.

Dont worry to much about runs and dirt, they can generally be flatted out and then polished. Start with 1500 grit wet and dry using a complaint thin rubber sanding pad to ensure you dont get 'tram lines'

I use on of these;

Keep your water really clean to avoid its of dirt scratching the paint. Once you have taken out the runs/dirt then go for 2000 grit and then a good polish. Something like a 3M green top polishing compound. Buy a 3M green polishing head at the same time.

Please keep us posted, this is a really good thread, love your confidence to do it all yourself.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I really appreciate it
The game plan is doing a flow coat, 600 and 800 gritt wet sanding followed by 2 additional coats of clear, then polish.

Here is a nice trick for BIG runs:
Skimming the run with fine filler, then sand it back using 400 grit.
When the filler is gone, then so is the run. Keep sanding 600-800-1200 grit, then polishing
I have watched a large number of YouTube videos with “ the gunman”.
a very good aussie painter. Lots of good advice here.

Front fenders, and bumpers ready for paint. Spend ages cleaning the black bitumen glue of the doors. Wooden paint stick, acetone and a bag of rags did the trick.
