Today was a great day to enjoy the 5.

I fitted the small 'Mazda' logo on the front bumper. I had it made for my previous 5, so i thought I'd chuck it on this one instead. I'm not sure if I'm fully sold to be honest, time will tell. I also look an opportunity to snap the wiper arms which i had painted recently to tidy them up.

Continuing test valeting products, I used some Turtle Wax tyre dressing on the tyres. It didn't leave a particularly good finish and I can't see it lasting very well. The Autoglym tyre dressing didn't last either but it did look good. I'll keep it in the bag for car shows.

Next little job was the clear side repeaters. These were (plastic) chrome finished which has started to come off and they had gone dull with small scratches on the lens. Before I mask off to paint I removed the lettering with fine sand paper and brought back the shine with Meguiars Ultimate Compound.

I also removed the yellow tow strap and swapped the plate to the other side. It looked too cluttered having the Mazda logo next to the number plate. The angle must be fine as the police stopped me for a 'chat' earlier and they didn't seem to mind. In fact I think they quite liked the car, with my wrists lightly tapped I was on my way again. Next time I won't show a Skoda VRS driver how fast the car picks up.

Looks ace buddy. Love the shine. Hopefully our S-Special will be like that when its done. I will let you know if I come across any bud, but I think the tops are the same? I've got the bottoms and just changed over the tops from my old door cards. I will be adding more this weekend. Need to get mine and the wife's car sorted for the rally also this weekend. Hopefully see you there. Ill come find you :-)

Thanks, I'll be handing out the Mazda Menders cupcakes :-)

Talking of cupcakes, these came today...They're icing - and should taste lovely.

I'll post pictures when the cupcakes are baked and ready to be eaten...

I haven't had much time to do much with work being so busy and preparing various things for the upcoming rally. I did have time to spray the replacement wing mirrors and tsis.
The wing mirrors came from another car and I was already in the process of repairing them when I bought this car. I have replacement bolts and I have removed all the rust from the springs and refinished them ready to be reassembled.

I'll have to finish them off when I have time. For now, I'm concentrating on the Mrs' car for the daily driver competition. The stealth 5 has been invited to be displayed on the combustion punks stand this weekend at the Donnington rally. Come and find me and eat the cupcakes!!

Shall - the door card tops should have the small tweeter in. I think I may have sourced some - I'm still hopeful the postman is bringing me an interesting parcel...

MM cupcakes,... you know I'll find you :laughing-rolling:

Well, what a weekend...

The Mrs had a little overdue present for me, made by a friend of mine who makes art from coins.

IMG_1473.jpg

Its cut from a coin stamped with the year of my birth. In the future I will have a Japanese coin made into a rising sun. Gabriel of Oathill and Kinsfolk (easily found on Facebook) hand makes all his coins, they're amazing.

Saturday was split between this car and the girlfriends. My car had been invited to be on display with combustion punks and hers was being entered into the daily driver competition at the Rally due to take place on the Sunday. I just meant to give it a quick once over as it hadn't actually done more than 50 metres since i had last cleaned it. I concentrated on the details, re-polished the glass, fed the seats and got the exhaust tip to shine.

I was pleased to see the menders setting up almost directly opposite us, I was busy for most of the day and didn't get nearly as much time to socialise as I would have liked. Next time.

I also had these made by the Mrs...

The last time we tried to make cupcakes as a thank you for the phoenix fives they turned us down. I'm glad the menders were more sensible :-)

They seemed to go down well. I hope you all had a taste (its better to have two at a time...).

Thats fine Wayne, drop me a pm whenever you need something.

Over the past few weeks I've been able to concentrate on some of the smaller jobs. I replaced the whole fog light unit as the old one wasn't working due to corrosion and it looked poor.

I found some original S Special mats, gave them a good clean and replaced the snazzy Jdm ones I had put in.

Talking of S Special stuff, I finished the digital S Special logos I was working on with a friend.

They're scaled down on here, the originals are very sharp. I'm in the process of having them plotted on vinyl and they will help dress up a few areas.

Whilst replacing a weeping diff seal I removed the rear silencer to clean part of the rear bumper that melted around it previously.

This is how it was before (hard to make out)

The bulk came off with a Stanley blade. It left this residue which was a great excuse to use a blow torch to remove it, the metal was brought back to its best with mothers mag polish - top stuff for metal work.

I had the lettering from the S Special logo made into stickers (the whole logo is too complex and would only work if it was very large). I thought it suited the strut brace well.

I also had the same company make me Roadster logos in various sizes to help finish the teardrops on the doorcards.

The car is currently out of the elements, in storage. It seems to be the only picture I have with the freshly painted black wing mirrors and the new clear side repeaters.
