hi,introducing me and my new (to me) eunos, i bought the car mid june. i was looking for an old car to run and tinker with , and was offered this car from a works friend,
he always has mx5`s and had bought this one for spares, he realized it was too good to break and new i liked a bit of a challenge and would have a go at saving it.
so i took the bait.
basically its a early jap eunos, elec windows, power steering and aircon. 1.6 engine seemed to be sound and it drove ok although off the road since 2012.
underneath was pretty crusty but sound, only rot i found was drivers inner wing under the pop up headlamp. i think water had sat in there and rotted it out, other side was mint.
so first bit of work i chopped out the rot by chain drilling around it the grinding the piece out leaving a hole. i cleaned up the edges, and luckily for me same friend i bought the car from had just scrapped a white eunos, i went round and managed to cut out the piece of inner wing i needed and took it home and ground it up to fit.
i then i weld primered the edges and mig welded it in, pics show hole, new metal in, primed up and painted red. i was really pleased how it turned out.
that was the only rot on the car.
since then i have fitted all new discs and pads, 2 tyres, full engine service, new wiper motor, changed the sealed beams to halogen, rodded out the drain holes.
fitted 2 bottom ball joints,i also had to fit a 2nd hand drivers window electric motor as the cable had snapped on the old one. and took it for a test, guess what ? passed. i was over the moon.
interior its pretty good, and i`am going to start using it after my summer hols.
paint work is pretty shitty but i`ll get there eventually.
i want to keep it as origonal as i can, i think i like the purity of the early cars.
anyway will kepp you lot posted and i will be asking many questions on here. thanks for reading this , hope it makes sence.

just a few picks, i found out it was built november 90, i got it mot`d 2 weeks ago and since changed the upper ball joint rubber and lower ball joint nearside as it was an advisory.
its solid underneath and i am going to strip and rustproof it next month. it had a drain blocked on the driverside, i cleared it and drained some water that was in the sill, i could only find one drain hole in the sill centre so have drilled a precautionary hole in the rear of the sills, i will keep an eye on it, i am pretty sure the drain pipe is on ok
and it was blocked so maybe that.
i aim to run/restore it to the best i can do myself and afford.
i got a good 2nd hand mohair hood for it so thats to fit, and no doubt it will throw things up as i start using it again. let you know.

hi, i thought the old boy had done just short of 117000 miles.
but the speedo clocks kilometers so its only done 72000, just run in really.
pics shows origonal speedo, and a u.k one i just picked up for ÂŁ16 on ebay.
now would you guys change the whole unit or just the speedo part?
pics shows new speedo first, and origonal second. seems to load them in reverse.

Why are you changing them? the Eunos speedo as a MPH sticker on there which i am guessing that she as had a drive conversion so the speed reading is correct ? or is the speed out? if the speed is correct then she will also be clocking miles not Km so the miles will be correct.

ah! thanks for that wayne, i am not starting to use the car till next month, i had thought the mileometer would click round in kilometers and i needed to show mileage proof for the insurance as its a limited miles policy.
i will check it out when i use it. so i now have a good spare anyway.
thanks for that wayne

On importing we had a few different ways of making them legal for the UK roads, the easiest and cheapest was to just change the speedo face so the speed was correct but with the drive of the box it would still clock travel in KM.
The other way was to add an extra drive gizmo to the gearbox and speedo cable which was the dearest option which then would change the OE Eunos speedo face to read correct on speed and travel in miles so a sticker would be added over the Km to show how it was running.
The other option was to leave it and guess your speed.
If you change your speedo and more so the mileage of it to half it should, you will be breaking the law, so you do need to find out what kind of conversion she as had if any before you go any further with the dial/clock change buddy .

I am sure it is not illegal to change the speedo on a car! You do have to inform the DVLA because the mileage shown will no longer be accurate, but that is all.

Just done a little leg work on this. To be honest i was quite surprised at what i found

Apparently there is nothing wrong with either changing or even winding one back.
You do not have to inform the DVLA either.

However you must point out that you have changed or had it wound back when you sell the car & also must tell the new owner what the mileage was when it was changed. If you don't then it becomes an offense.
