Back playing with Ashleigh's little red roadster...sorting out the last of the electrics..which are mainly add ons....

So wired in the reflectors as indicators, fitted a better set of a head light units with PIAA xtrem force blue vision bulbs, aftermarket reversing light..front fogs and double fog lamp switch, wired the A/C fan to the cooling fan, connected up the aftermarket temp gauge and sense...fitted a very nice rare set of rims with new shoes, also wired in a electric boot release...was going to fit and wire in Remote C/L but family issues needed sorting out..so next job now and Heated rear window loom..

Carrying on Finishing off all the electrics... HRW loom in and connected up to the NB switch, fitted the boot release switch in solid to the centre arm rest cubby, interior light delay connected up, rear speakers in and fitted, cleaned the rear carpets while it was apart, leather seats all cleaned and conditioned from a NBFL Trilogy and started to deep clean the interior, nice weekend in the sun messing..

Remote C/L next, interior lights, interior LEDs, rear bumper lip, and a few more bits I'll no doubt mess with, then onto striping and undersealing with cavity wax injecting, passenger side rear arch and sill to cut out and sort....

Up in the air and ready for strip down, panel welding , undersealing and cavity wax, C/L still to fit, and fit the bumper rear lip at the same time....My little angel is not the tallest of young ladies so we asked her to sit in the roadster and adjust to fit.....thats when the wet fish in the face came at 100mph straight into me to knock me over and the realization that " she could not engage the peddles correct with out pulling out of the seat , so solution number 1....order a rear support to pull her more forward in the colour of the seats ....that arrived and the test dummy was dragged out to try it....."still not right , we're going to need to finish her and sell her then and get you something else" , then daryl offered a suggestion..." just try her in mine"....so off we went and....the seat pulled forward for her to reach without the back support???? .
Then the penny dropped, the seats i had fitted to Ashlieghs Roadster are from a MK 2.5 trilogy edition, and Daryls were standard MK 1 seats re covered in leather, so just to make sure we were not missing anything we got Ash to sit and adjust the seat in my MK 1, no problems , so the thoughts turned to yet another seat of seats for her MK 1 which I have plenty of, so off to try a MK 2, she adjusted the seats and could not reach ? so the leather VS seats I had from an NB import were a no go for her roadster??? , " I have some MK 1 NA leather VS II seats we can use which will still be in keeping with the colour scheme" , it was at that moment another penny dropped...." its the seat runners , The NB runners must be different with the travel?" , so the search for a set of MK 1 NA seat runners started, and found a seat in not to bad nick but wanted sorting, cleaned back up,prepped and sprayed ready for swapping out, who would of guessed, everyday is a learning day.

Seat runners all greased and lubed to run better than new and fiited to the Mk2.5 seats...refitted the mk1 seat belt stalks and now short a*se can reach the pebbles...
Also cut up and fitted a rear lip skirt for the twin exit....will paint it black with the spats when I remove the rear bumper etc for panel cutting out and repair to the passenger side rear...more on that as its done.

Had a play with Ashleigh's over the weekend ,not much i could do with the rotten weather...started to strip her down for panel repair and protection....rear bumper off two studs snapped so will sort that before it goes back on...plastics off a zorst and cat...all brackets and heat shields off ,tie down hoops off...so started to de rust unbolted bits and paint ready for building back up new rear passenger side repair panel arrived from good old Autolinkmx5, i have the inner sill section already in the bat cave, all my new welding gear as slowly turned up ready for action , had a bit of a run about looking for gas and had to get a small one as that is all they had in, underneath is not to bad, just surface rust really so no biggy for prepping to be undersealed and the box sections injected...front to strip down yet...but i bought a new dremel tool as my old one started to play up even after adding new brushes..it as had some hammer over who knows how many years, anyway the new one....dremel 3000...used it 4 times and it as stopped working...nothing.. stripped it down...nothing looks busted, cleaned the switch tracks..back together and nothing....so a warning...do not buy a dremel 3000 as it seems to be not just me with the on/off speed controller fault...

I managed to get a couple of hours on ashleighs red Roadster last night...front stripped down ready for sorting and prep before panel replacement, undersealing,cavity wax...drivers wing put up a fit to release from the nose cone with trusty old dremel...so the nose cone and wing were removed in one to free them apart with more room...only one 10 mm bolt snapped removing everything,so happy with that, now is it sad that i removed the over spray on the impact bumper ready for when its re fitted?...because if i did not ...i would know it was still there even if you cannot see it...but going this deep it has to go all back correct a right...

Gave the red roadster a good blast down to see what and where needs dealing with....common place issues with not being protected and lack of care as given issues in the normal places...both front sills want taking back and treating from the collection of dead leafs etc from the skuttle and killed the front wings... passenger rear sill and arch need replacing, signs of filler(knew this when i bought her)..drivers rear sill just showing signs...which is all from blocked drainage tubes , underneath is just your standard light surface rust..she is good nick for a 1990 import that as been over here a good while against our salt....the two front wings i bought require some work as someone though it was a great idea to slap under seal on top surface rust....defeats the object really people....so next is de rusting ,treating,painting and undersealing,while cutting out and welding....

Update on Ashleighs little red roadster....Saturday was a wash out, very frustrating because all i could do was lick windows watching the rain ,i am two weeks behind on where i should be on this now , anyway Sunday fared a little better, rain stopped at around 10/11ish, but boy was it windy, so out for attack, it was slow going on hitting other things that needed addressing first as i went so only the front and drivers side prepped and ready for undersealing at the minute, the wings i bought for this( around two weeks ago) are shot and not happy after spending nearly a good 2 to 3 hrs scrapping underseal off to reveal rust, "everywhere", the bottom section is GRP attached to .."rust" so that won't last long anyway, so not great and only fit for the bin, i only noticed because of blisters showing on the arch and front from the outside, waiting to see what joys the passenger one is in, luckily i have two good wings i can fit , sent the seller a vid, if there is one thing i really hate is wasting my time. .....

Front , driver's inner wing,drivers wishbones,sway bar etc and front sill all derusted where needed ,treated and painted..impact bumper guides and front tie down hoops,front grill stripped,treated and painted, found seam sealer lifting and surface rust underneath..so all taken back,treated and painted ready for fresh seal to be applied...seeing this a lot now the cars are getting older...seam sealer drying out and lifting exposing joints for water to get in more box sections that it should not be doing... anyone doing deep builds or full restorations...check them all including at the rear wings in the water run and at the chrome deck plates is also a weak point and lets water into the boot..

managed to get a bit more done on her this time on the passenger side last night...this side seems just slightly worse which it would be as it is kurb side, same issue with the seam sealer drying out ,lifting and rust,so de rusted,treated and paint added,seam sealer to be added yet...all been de rusted,treated and painted including the sway bar wishbones etc....ready for applying undersealing and cavity wax..,.
