Marv's BRG Mk1

Postby marvin151173 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 2:40 pm

Picked up my stock 1.8 mk1 in BRG in May 2010 after flogging a fully restored Mini

This is the mini leaving after a 4 year restoration and pampering:

So this was the start:

It was a 1997(P) 1.8, totally stock and generally pretty tidy.

New steering wheel (and lens)

My boot lid was a little dented so I got hold a another one and had the back end resprayed by a mate

The weather was pretty bed and I got a little bored so started "project LGW", I managed to get hold of a rather nasty rear wing and another spare boot lid and came up with this:

As i was now aeroed up to the max I thought I should put it to good use so a ferry ticket was bought and a little road trip to Nurburgring happened (ghetto images):

The wheels were finished in black

Image

Image

dropped in some new seats
Image

and bought a new number plate to get rid of the snowplow look

Image

this trip was awesome (and has since become an annual thing....well Spa has, so much better than the ring IMO

A bit of Eau Rouge action

Sorry about the ghetto pictures, the website were asking 30 Euro a pop just for emailing jpeg's

June 2013:

During the trip to Spa and NĂĽrburgring it was apparent that the stock dampers and autolink springs weren't up to the job, went with HSD DT's

Image

Old V's new

Image

Rears in

Image

Obviously the difference was is phenomenal, the DT's are a nice piece of kit, well made and driftworks were brilliant, can't compliment them enough.

Late June, someone reversed in to me, towbar went straight through the panel joint killing the wing and nosecone in one go - put off the repair until a later date, a bit of cable tie stitching did the trick.

Image

September 2013

Obviously I was eager to get back out on track to put the new hardware to the test so me and a few pals booked Pembrey in September 2013, a great little circuit in south Wales, not to far from me. A wet track to start resulted in me mowing the lawns, fortunately no damage other than grass cuttings all over and all under the car.

Image

I had a tuition session following the off, can't recommend tuition enough it transformed my lap, probably gave me more confidence ultimately knocking a good 10 seconds of a lap which for a small circuit is fantastic (good tutor though)....plus the track was drying out rapidly.

December 2103

Pembrey was followed by Cadwell Park, awesome circuit well worth its reputation as a mini Nurburgring

cheers for now, updates will continue in due course
