Change head gasket or not?

Postby Nick Ground » Sat May 27, 2017 12:28 pm

Changing the water pump because the NB RS overheats when giving it serious stick on track. Replaced radiator made no difference. SO when stripped down I get suspicious when I see the following

1. Oil as per picture
2. Cool and having leaked from around water pump, pic.

Trouble is that I'm booked for the MX5OC at Bruntingthorpe in two weekends time and abroad this week and already at Bruntingthorpe all week prior to the event!

Obviously well on way to getting head removed but to get it stripped, skimmed and refitted..... How likely is it that it would need skimming?

To me its a 50/50 call on skimming, might just be the gaskets that are starting to fail, they don't last forever and if you giving her some beans on tracks, that's added pressure on the various gaskets over which we steady eddies apply.

Not much help I suppose, truth is you wont really know till she is n bits and you get the head checked.
