Dash crash pad fitted, HU fitted, i was going to remove the style bar until i looked at it and all the trim had been butchered , so a call to Andrew at Autolinkmx5 for better seat belt tower trim and seat belt caps, plus better drainage tubes, as the ones on are missing their end flap, so is letting road noise through into the cab and condensation...

Big thank to Andrew at Autolinkmx5 for the box of goodies needed.....

Fuse box cover with lid sticker for under the bonnet fitted as the old one was missing the sticker...
bonnet cushioner fitted..as it was missing
Bottom nose cone mouth to air guide trim buttons fitted...as the wrong ones were fitted
Rear seat belt tower trim and trim clips/buttons cleaned up and ready to fit, just need to cut out for the rear cab brace...
Drainage tubes as the old ones have been man handled and the flap at the bottom of them are missing so letting in road noise and condensation..
Rear JDM solid type rear boot panel...
Plug for wiring in the front fog lights....

The rear OEM cabin rear strut brace as turned but the seller never told me the end caps fixing clips are busted from his heavy handed removal Technic, but i'll sort it...

Swapped out the seats ready for swapping for the correct G-ltd seats, so rubbed down and sprayed some of the seat brackets, the later Roadsters changed the rear boot trim panel to a thin carpet tacky thing, and i never liked the flimsy cut back effort ,,,and it was changed from black to grey...so after cleaning the early panel i used a fast tack spray glue and stuck the flimsy tacky cut back effort on to it....result a nice solid late grey type now, yes i know it is a personal thing, but it looks and feels so much better...

The dual switch as been split and wired in to be separate front fog light switch and HRW switch, found a electric door mirror switch so i'm going to wire up those also.

So the style bar turn brace is out and the butchered seat belt tower panels, thanks to the owner along her way that fitted it and "over tightened" everything a strut brace welded OE nut had broken free from the welds ( drivers side) and a seat belt hanger captive nut (passenger side), so i need to secure those again :angry-tappingfoot: :angry-banghead: ...
So the new seat belt tower panels are in and waiting to be removed again when a template arrives to do the cut out for the OE rear cab brace from a local fellow owner called Dave that as done a template from his panels :bow-yellow: ..
Thought i had some seat belt tower caps, but only found the one for the passenger side, also thought i had a pair of seat belt tower hard top clamp brackets...guess again LOL turns out i only had 2 x left ones of those also ?????, so on the search for some of those as even the seat belt caps are handed.

Need to drill the body panel behind the panel to fit a trim button as these are MK 2 panels and have the holes for the so great (not) OE wind blocker and at the back as i am also fitting the MK 2 panels on the other side of the seat belt tower panels where the main hood frame hinge is , simply because i always think they looked finished with them in place.

The OE seats that have been recovered have been removed and some TRilogy seats put in ready for the old ones being collected and swapped for the OE g-ltd ones which will be fitted.
Daryl found a neat thing on the bay of E which is a gear selector leather cover for the Automatic and a handbrake cover in any colour and stitching your heart desires ,which these are black leather with blue stitching , i like ...a lot.... :handgestures-thumbup: :coffee:

Postby Mazda Mender » Mon Jan 21, 2019 1:47 am

I am very limited to what i can physically do as i have badly put my back out, and no great story behind doing it...twisted funny getting out of bed on new years eve, so be careful people ,cannot believe it was that simple...hey ho....i need to swap the suspension, give the braking system one of my major services and water pump, cam belt ,seals, fluids and full service..undersealing and box sextions...so i am pottering with bits i can do easy enough...the seats were taken out by my lad for me and he did the engine clean...there is still little bits i can do until my back wants to play nice again..
But glad your appreciating my sad attension to details...she will make a lovely roadster when i am finished..as there is a rear sill and a 1/4 of the arch on the drivers rear that will need cutting out..which is not to bad at the minute so grinder and welder out...but thats for summer i hope and the gear box conversion which i'll do a full guide on how to do it..
I have to many project on the go..which i am listing everything i do to them in all the seperate builds..which is for me personally...it is a build /revamp thread/
;0)
I am using them all for different how to guides for many things...i'll be filming the water pump change etc and taking pics to do a guide with...

She is an easy fix..and very satisfying to do inbetween the harder builds...
But thanks for following john.

"I am very limited to what I can physically do"

So perhaps MM stands for mere mortal or more than likely Mazda Mad!!

Even laid up you cant just rest up and have to have your hands on a MX5.

I follow all your build threads, mainly looking for tips to keep my little girl as standard as possible but in tip top Mazda Menders condition.

So you have a poorly back and I have a wonky left knee, looks like we need mending buddy but I am not putting it out there for suggestions !!

:violin:
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Life is a journey, best travelled topless in an MX5!!

Finally made a template so i can mark up where the cut outs for the seat belt tower panels so the OE rear cab brace can be fitted.....

Also found a driver side seat belt tower hard top side latch bracket..

All the panels are in and OE rear cab brace...
Decided to try and tackle the suspension and brakes the best i can small baby steps and all that , any way i manged to get the 2 front Mk 2 suspension in and filed and cleaned up the front passenger side brake carrier new slider clips and lift off springs, pads are not far off new and the discs, so was the caliper???but on resting it on the bottom wishbone while i worked i noticed brake fluid...and then on lightly squeezing the seal brake fluid poured out, so i guess thats not staying, it as not been fitted long by the looks of it,so straight on the phone to Andrew at Autolinkmx5 to send two new ones out asap as i could also see the newness of the drivers side also and i am not taking the chance, i just cannot believe i drove this on a motorway ...just glad i pressed the fact to the good lady that it is a unknown roadster to me so take your time i have no faith i her yet...

Here is the vid loaded up on to the menders you tube channel :-...... https://youtu.be/aNuKPyiUwhI

The slider pins were a hit and miss, passenger side were covered in copper slip so were doing the opposite to what was needed any way, drivers side were rusty and solid...
So thats where i had to leave it as my back said no more....enough,,,so both suspension units in at the front, passenger side carrier ready (i'll paint them in summer), drivers side carrier to finish sorting and both new calipers to fit when they arrive and the seat belt top hanger point cap and i'll be happy with that for the minute , then i'll see how i am to start on the back end...

Just watched the video on the calliper . https://youtu.be/aNuKPyiUwhI that thing is downright dangerous, but at least they save a couple of quid. Can just see the tombstone.

Hopefully, with posts like the above, the message will slowly get out there.

So i have been painting the new calipers ready for fitting...thank you Autolinkmx5..also derusted and painted a spare set of 1.8 carriers ready for swapping with the carriers on the Roadster...
Swapped the dust covers and slider pins rubbers for new while i was at it...greased and new slider clips added, and thats as far as i got at the minute ,one rear carrier still needing to finish...
Oh and a hard top turned up to sit on her...
