Hi folks, two plugs under my seats, the connected one clearing controls seat belt warning light. Is the unused one for the headrest speakers ? I have no speakers or wiring in the seats, just empty spaces. Feeling bored so fancy fitting some.

In that case, your model would have been fitted with the MSSS system head unit ,two off the wires would have been fitted to the bass thumper which would have been fitted in the inside of the back surpport of the seats ,the others will be the left and right for the head rest speakers, sounds like the seats have been changed or the wires have been cut out?

hey there guys, i worked on exactly the same thing with M-m yesterday, so as my payment i will gladly put up what i know on this matter.

there are two plugs under each seat, i have attached the one which relates to the speakers. i am not sure on positive and negative so you will need to try and work this out by plugging in the wires and seeing how the speakers sound.

so, imagine the wires are numbered one through six from left to right. the right speaker wires are one and three, the left two and four. i think from how mine are wired that one and three are positive and two and four are negative however i must stress i'm not sure. the two red ones five and six are not needed

in terms of the wires from the seats mine didnt actually have any wires in although there were holes for speakers already there.

i would suggest two 3.5" or 4" will fit the more powerful the better. i have found that although quiet obviously, if the fade on the stereo is more to the front the rears sound louder.

If you need wiring fitting into the seats i'd suggest using a wire coathanger poke it through the back of the headrest once the cover is off at the front , aim it down through the foan as near to the back as possible. once through you will need to guide it down the seat so you dont go through the back covering. once you have a channel, you can put it through again with the wire taped to it.

Its a bit fiddly but worth it. also scotch locks to attach the wires to the loom are the easiest.

Any questions let me know.

Cheers

Update, if you have got one use a mk 1 whip aerial as it has a ball aon and its safer, a coathanger may break through so tape up the end or blunt it however you can

I don't have a Mk1 so no headrest speakers for me but I just wanted to point out that the power (watts) of the speakers has no bearing at all on how loud they will sound. For louder speakers without fitting an amp you need to fit some with higher sensitivity.

Aaaarrrggghhhh!!! Scotchloks.

I know they seem like an easy option and anybody can use them but they can cause no end of problems. I personally wouldn't trust them. If you do use them try and stagger their position in a loom so they don't take up as much room or cause wires to be pulled etc.
Sorry if this sounds like a rant but there are better ways of doing it that aren't that much more difficult or expensive.

No i get where your coming from and persoanlly would of liked to solder the female side of the plug in, so if you need to remove the seats, you can just unplug, the seat had nothing in them what so ever, so we need to come back to it at a later date.
Trust me they will not be left like that, i hate them just as much.
