The rails are not that thick and will crush under load, there are jacking points on the roadster for that reason.

Don't drop down on a axle stand on the lip ,it will crush it .plus there are drainage holes, juat behind the lip you will feel a ridged section that is the strongest point of the Sill which is the jacking poinits and axle stand surpports.

That stand should be between the two notches you can see in the pic. To lift the rear, you should jack on the diff casing then place stands on each side, then drop gently. The stands should have a groove for the lip to go in.

edit: Wayne keeps getting there just before me!
double edit: surely there is a lifting FAQ here?

Well I'll be honest and say that this whole jacking discussion has now got me totally confused with various different 'best approach' statements.

Because my car is low, meaning my trolley jack will not fit under it, I use the car jack to raise the car. That means I cannot use the sill jacking points to place an axle stand because there is a jack there (simples). MM you talk about an 'inner jacking point' but I have never heard of that before so please can you provide some more detail including ideally pictures.

And regarding the chassis box section collapsing if used to support the weight of the car, I reckon I would be very concerned if they were that weak given that they are the primary source of structural rigidity for the car especially in an accident.

I think we need a proper 'how to' on jacking now that the waters have been so thoroughly muddied.

Quite a few of us with lower cars use the small plastic type ramps so we can get the trolley jack under :handgestures-thumbup:
