Since I got the new Mk1 I have noticed that the temperature gauge never gets up to the normal position. It makes it as far as the edge of the 'water' on the temperature logo - so maybe 60 degrees - then stays there. I immediately suspected the thermostat but having just exchanged it I am still getting the same problem.
I'm assuming that the next thing to look at is the temperature sensor? Or does anyone have another obvious suggestion? If it is the temperature sensor are the ones for the 1.6 and 1.8 interchangeable?

The needle as been removed and pushed back on in the wrong place, pop past and i'll test the temp around the system before you spend on stuff you don't need.

Cheers Wayne. I need to remove the instrument cluster at some point anyway to swap out the dials on the oil pressure gauge and the speedo (the latter because the one fitted is ugly) so if it was something as simple as that then it would be convenient.
I'm guessing that getting the needle in the right place again will be tricky.

No it is dead easy...
Take the needle off, run her up to temp so when the fan kicks in press the needle back on to dead centre/top
