Suspension bushes - Mk 2.5

Postby Mike Clack » Thu Oct 13, 2016 11:48 am

I'm new to MX5s and recently acquired a 2002 1.6 Phoenix - just coming up to 60k miles.

The suspension bushes look quite tired and thinking of treating the car to replacements all round - also steering, shock and drop link bushes.

I'm fairly competent although never done this before - any tips? I have ramps and stands. Any special tools I will need?

I thought I would take the opportunity to give the wishbones a good clean up and paint too. Any recommendations?

Welcome to the site bud and congratulations on buying (what i think is) the best model MK2 there is available. The bush swapnis quite straightforward if you take your time and do it. Let me do a quick search and share a few threads which might help.

*Edit1*
The one thread i think which will be the most useful to you will be this one as it's detailed and quite interesting
viewtopic.php?f=120&t=2449&p=24092&hilit=wishbone+clean#p24092

*Edit2*
While everything is apart, try and get it all cleaned up underneath and look into undersealing the car. There are many products to choose from, i used Dinitrol and it's holding up very well. Many people choose to powdercoat the wishbones while they are off as it's hard wearing and great for protection.

Best if luck and keep us updated (share pics and possibly start a thread about your car in the members rides section if yiu haven't already).
