Postby Snoop_53 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 8:02 am

Morning Menders,

Coming into the second winter with the mx5 and wondering this year if iit would be best to swap to a set of winter tyres?

Whats the general opinion of this?

Has anyone done it and is it best?

I have a mk3 mx5.

cheers

I am sad enough to have winter wheels, summer wheels and some rims with snow tyres on, but for the last two years i have stayed on the every day tyres and have not hit any major problems.
Rainsports are a good all rounder, and i am running Yoko C drives which have never let me down, but tyres are a personal choice thing as in most cases it is how you drive her.

Snoop,

Where do you live. In Aberdeenshire there will be days where an MX5 on summer tyres is just dangerous amd only one winter in about 2000 I think, there was no need for winters.

That would not be the case down south so again where do you live and what areas do you drive in.

I live in Falkirk mate which is inbetween glasgow and edinburgh so think that I will likely be seeing some adverse weather conditions lol.

most of my driving is in town and only work about 5 miles from my house so not excessive driving but of course want it to be safe.

Cheers

Yes a set of winters may well be of use to you as it can get a bit iffy down there and if fact a few years ago it was worse your way than up here in Aberdeenshire.

You can either look for a set of alloys and put winters on them or now you can buy steel wheeled winters from mytryes.co.uk.

I did that for a coupl eof VW's last winter and have just put the winters back on a Golf last night.
