Looping Lines

Postby cool2bme » Sun Jun 18, 2023 4:17 pm

Going to be removing all my old power steering from my 97 mk1 except for the rack itself.
My question is if i go ahead and loop the lines and become " leak free" will it pass an MOT ?
Asking as is my daily driver.

Thanks.

My first question is why are you removing the power steering.
1993 1.6 Eunos Roadster (gone)
1998 UK Mk 2 1.6 (gone)
2003 1.8 SVT Sport (shouldnt have sold it)
1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster with a bit of bling.

Hi
The powers steering pump, hoses all noisy and leaking plus i prefer a more basic style of steering that manual steering i find gives me .
Plus the mk1 i have is a uk version so no other frills.
i was just going to swop out the rack for a manual one but thought i would loop the lines first just to see if i still preferred it.
also Mot not to far away and easier to loop the lines than change the rack.

thanks .

The Roadster design from the off was designed to have power steering, on the MK1 ,UK spec did not because of costs...and it became standard from 1998 on the Mk2's onwards...which hose is leaking? I am guessing at the cooler pipe that runs behind the nose cone, personally I would just fix the issues and carry on enjoying, rather than bodging up to bring on further issues
Linking the lines together not going through the pump and bottle is not a great idea as there is a low and high pressure which gets regulated by the bottle.
If it's a lack of P/S you desire, than fit a manual rack and be done, de powering a P/S rack is fiddly and not really worth all the hassle, do it right or fix what you have.
