Braided Brake Lines

Postby ElliottW » Thu Jan 07, 2016 4:59 pm

A little while ago I fancied up rating my brake lines from the standard ones to braided. I did a little shopping around and whittled it down to either HEL Performance or Goodridge. Goodridge are zinc plated fittings where the HEL lines were stainless, so I decided on HEL. When they arrived, I noticed they were missing the middle fitting on the front lines (where it attaches to the wishbone) but they came with P clips, so in my stupidity I fitted them anyway. The fitting at the chassis side of the line was also different to the OEM line, so the bracket had to be modified.

After driving the car, I raised the car back up to inspect the lines and found that the fronts had been scrubbing on the wheels.

I wasn't really impressed with the lines so I got in touch with HEL and they were actually very helpful on the phone. They sent me out a replacement set of brake lines immediately from MX5 Parts (their stainless steel lines with aluminium fittings) so I could still drive the car. These were exact replacements for my old ones and fitted perfectly with no dramas and they don't scrub either! HEL said they would redevelop their brake lines, but they never got back to me. To be honest I'm very happy with the quality and fit of the MX5 Parts lines that I haven't chased them up (although I probably should of). They give a really good feel through the pedal and give me a lot more confidence when I have brake hard for what ever reason.

So to summarise my waffling, HEL didnt fit at all (although they said they would redevelop them), MX5 Parts lines fitted perfectly and I haven't heard or read anything about Goodridge lines on the MK3.

Thanks
