Cross model fitment.

Postby simes2000 » Fri May 27, 2022 12:28 pm

I need to fit a new Damper to my car (n/s rear is leaking) - and the ones fitted are not original, they are yellow, which makes me think they are likely to be Konis?

Anyway, I have never been entirely happy with the ride in general, or the ride height in particular, so can anyone advise as to compatibility with the road springs and dampers for the later 3.5 and 3.75 models with my 3?? If so would they give a more pliant ride, and a lower ride height?

Cheers

My now departed 2.5 had yellow shocks and they were Bilstiens, as for later models, no idea really but I help look after a mates mk3 and that has Bilstiens fitted, not sure if they are a standard fit to mk3s.

You might want to consider an all four corners fitment of Miesters which I understand are fully adjustable. Hope to fit a set to our mk1, once this financial crisis is over.

Definitely want to do all four corners, and thinking of Meisters, just need to save up a bit! I did notice that after I wrote the original that Bilsteins are yellow (and I think Konis may be gold rather than yellow - difficult to see on the various dealer websites).

Miesters all the way, you will not look back , fully adjustable to set to your personal whats and needs, just remember when swapping suspension, alignment needs to be done also ,and to get the best out off the sett up ,go for fast road settings.
Koni vary in colours from red, orange, yellow, billies are yellow.

Thank you

Are you aware of any insurance issues with Miesters for road use?

Thank you - I was just a bit concerned about the Autolink disclaimer -

"As it has not yet been TUV approved, this setup is sold for off-road and competition use only."

Does this exist for the earlier MKs or is it just the Mk3???

Unfortunately my insiurers will not cover the car if it has altered suspension and I am struggling to find the same Bilsteins that are fitted (I am fairly certain they were not factory fitted) The only thing Bilstein seem to sell themselves even is a complete set of springs and dampers, not the individual dampers. It looks like I will have to resort to returning to the original springs and dampers, or those fitted to later models.

Which returns me to my original question - does any one know if the 3.5/3.75 springs and dampers will fit my 3.5??

Thank you
