I do tend to harp on about how modern engines will not benefit from an aftermarket filter...no matter what figures K&N drag up from testing on the 50s American heaps. Well, how about some proper testing on more modern engines??

And how about a cold air intake? We all know sucking in hot air is bad, don't we?

Hmm...even I fell for the whole 'surely, logically, it must be...' argument.
Never mind, at least it sounds nicer.
What you put in, you'll get back ten fold

I love the sound of the K&N's on my cars and they help the engine bay look nicer.

Same here...but that really is the sum total of what they do on modern cars. If anything you may have lost a few horses, but as they point out 1-2% either way is undetectable to the driver.

Agreed, I fitted a Typhoon & twin exit zorst on my Sport. Looked & sounded much better but doubt it gained any horses.

On that '50 year old oil' article, the guy called his '86 Chevy V8 'a fairly modern engine' - by those standards my mk1 is cutting edge!!!
