It's for maintenance....changeing bulbs and so on, including cleaning the lenses.

Reason I ask is that I've owned ford probes in the past with no such button, you had to pop lights up on a probe via the putting head lights on, then you had to pull the retar fuse, then turn lights off! Lots of messing about!

Clever japs think of everything lol!

It also bypasses the relay so it serves as a useful backup for if the retract relay fails.
