"My son did it..."

Yeah, but I bet he learned to drive in the last 20 years or so and didn't expect it to be left in gear on the flat (or at all). Perhaps she should pick up a highway code once in a while and brush up.

I`ve been driving for almost 40 years & ALWAYS park in gear & always start it clutch down. But many don`t so easy to see why that could happen if somebody else drove the car.

Yes, because driving instructors, the highway code and the driving test, have all advised against it for decades because it is both unnecessary and dangerous, so most recent drivers wouldn't expect it at all.

Yea if I drive my kids or daughter in laws cars I have to make a point of not leaving them in gear when I park up.

One of the main basics of being taught to drive is to check it is not in gear regardless of the years and ages.

But the reason it was deemed unsafe is quite clear there - if a kid had been walking behind, they would be dead now. Humans forget stuff...many people have died crushed between cars and walls and other cars because people forgot to check. There's no point leaving it in gear in the first place - handbrakes fail much more rarely than people forgetting stuff.
The advice now is to turn the wheels into the kerb if on a hill (or away if parked uphill) and that works far better than being in gear in the very rare case of handbrake failure (which should never happen on a car with a valid MoT) as a steep hill will easily turn the engine over anyway.

So from a bit of a chuckle and a giggle we have gone super deep FFS, the t*t should of checked the gear N*b, and the dad should not have left it in gear in the first place , and not been to lazy to send his son to do what he should of been doing to be honest, they are both to blame, just lucky he missed the walls and pillars when he shot back like a rocket instead of stopping her with a bit of common sense and driving basics a know how.

We should form the roadster police and go round seizing cars from those that don't have the bare minimum of common sense.

And people should have an hour's refresher every 5 or 10 years on the latest rules and regs and best practice of the road...so many people still rely on what they were originally taught decades ago when things were very, very different. The number of old codgers who still don't know how to use a roundabout is scary, when the highway code is a fiver down Smiths and they just don't bother having a look and just guess and take our lives in their hands instead.
