Mk2.5 Lower Alternator Mounting Pivot Bolt

Postby scunninghamk » Tue Feb 20, 2018 10:57 am

As this has seized at the moment on my car... when I get the bl**dy thing loose can I reverse the bolt so that the head is actually accessible without severe knuckle damage?

Replace it with the bolt and nut from a 1.6 NA ,you will never hit the issue again.

Sorry MM you have realise you’re dealing with an mechanical idiot here.., could you be more specific... ! Is the 1.6 NA a better size/option? I can get a replacement nut and bolt from the usual sources and slap on copper slip if that’s the same thing. And can I reverse it?

1.8 mk1 and everything else to 05 have a bolt only which is feed from the back to a thread in the front alternator arm which weathers and fuses together and can be a nightmare to remove if you don't know how ,thats why i highly recommend once its out swapping it for the mk1 1.6 nut and bolt from the front to the back as they always come undone...

I need to do a walk through guide on changing it out and cracking that bolt.
