Mk2 electric window not working

Postby chadz » Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:11 pm

Hi, The drivers side electric window has stopped working after months of being sluggish. The switch is working as a distinct clunck is heard when it is pressed and the window feels as though it wants to move but is being held back, like a brake has been applied. Do these symptoms sound familiar to anybody? The voltage on my voltmeter is 14V with engine running and the nearside window is working ok.
Any suggestions?

Chadz

They do at times get sluggish.

Wayne helped me sort ours by telling me to lubricate the runners with halfords silicone spray which worked for us.
I just do it now as part of my monthly run round and check up and ours are still working fine.

I seem to remember this being covered in a post a while back. I'll see if I can find it, but no doubt Wayne will beat me to it.

No. The start of the problem was as you described, plus I could force it down at same time as switch operation and pull it back up grudgingly but now it clunks with no movement even resists manual assist. Could it be the glass being obstructed somehow?

Have sent for some silicon lube but gaining access to apply it seems to be very restricted, having removed the door card. The plastic cover with black gunge is a pain in the a**e.
The photos regarding the anchoring of the cable were excellent and I was hoping that would be the problem but I could hardly believe my eyes to discover it had already been done by a previous owner.

I understand from my workshop manual that to remove the glass to gain access to the guide channels and then drive mechanism you have to drop the window a couple of inches to give access to the nuts securing the glass. As stated, my window will not budge at all so here I am up that well known creek without a paddle. Bugger!!!
Anybody got Ed China's number?

Are you sure the cable as not frayed and jamming it?, There also no need to remove the glass to re lube up correct, it sounds like yours need the full works...re setting ,grease and silicone lube spray.

What cable are you referring to? The inside of the door is so closed up it does not make access to the drive mechanism easy.

If the inner cable is frayed you will hear it as it tries to pull or push into the outer cable.

If only I could get the glass down to reveal the glass retaining nuts. The inner workings for the electrical powered windows are very well concealed. This must be the least desirable job on the production line.
Has anybody done this job on a mk. 2? Please let me know how you did it.

Thanks
