Get s/hand units from a breaker that worked and swap everything, £300 tops.

I actually called mx5 city just after my last post & they believe they can help. I am calling back tomorrow to talk to the manager.

Well, I'm of the opinion that as he came to fix a small problem and left you with a big problem, the tradesman should be getting called back to sort it out. At least he should get it back to how it was when he arrived.

I totally agree & told him that & he just said he had "wasted" hours on my car! I ended up slamming the phone down on him. His customer skills are non existent!
It would be impossible to prove that he has caused the damage though so I have kept the key he cut and wont be paying him a penny....

Slowly turning into a nightmare this :-(

Unfortunately, you're probably right and there's not a lot you can do unless you want to take him to small claims court for the cost of the repairs - he should have liability insurance so he would be covered and probably wouldn't spend much money fighting it.

Other than that, see if he is on checkatrade.com or any other review sites and leave a frank but honest review.

Thanks for all your posts guys... I am finally sorted.... I spoke to a really nice chap at MX5 city in sheffield & he put me in touch with a key chap from Barnsley who owns an MX5.
He told me that the error code basically meant reprogram cycle incomplete as you have to cut and code two keys in this process.

So I took this to the guy that botched my car & "mentioned" small claims court. He came back and fixed me with 2 new keys for £150

So happy :-) cheers all

Gaz

p.s. make this sticky as im sure I wont be the last to lose my keys!
