Just a quick email to say that my local garage managed to stop the alarm - apparently, it is an aftermarket alarm (maker: Codealarm). I think he said he turned the ignition on and then there is a reset button somewhere down near the console. So, at the moment I don't have an immobiliser on the car. I actually visited a local auto electrician and asked if he would be able to source me a fob to which he said "no." He did say that he would fit me another alarm for £360!

Not sure if anyone out there knows where I may be able to get a replacement fob - I expect that even when I buy the fob it will need to be programmed but I suspect it will be cheaper than the £360 quote for the alarm! According to the inside of the key fob it is an MM-67 and there are the numbers 11-16-96 after it. After a bit of investigating it seems that the fob was made in the USA - I have also looked on e-bay but nothing doing at the moment .

Funnily enough I have service history for the car right from the very start but I have no information about an after-market alarm being fitted to the car.

Thanks to Wayne and everyone for their help so far though. Next item to buy is a hood (Wayne - I will order that very soon and will inform you when I do) and then get the paintwork fettled.

£360 to supply and fit an alarm, for real
Is that an alarm with a immoberilizer and C/L? or just an alarm?, i'll show you what i have when you drop here, and if you want one, get one, and i'll fit it for you.

Apparently that is for a "microwave" rather than an ultrasonics alarm - it is not central locking as my car has the wind down windows and no central locking.

Yes, I will look at what you have when I come over - great, thanks. Have you any windblockers in your batcave please?

Cheers.

Not sure really. Perhaps we can discuss when I bring her round for a new hood and then I will pop round again and you can fit the alarm. You must be a busy man!

Re my battery issues -you will be interested to note that I emailed the company I brought my charger from as I thought that it was not working. You remember I said that I connected my flat battery and the charger was displaying that the battery was fully charged. Below is their reply:-

If the car battery was totally flat then the battery charger will not be
able to sense any power feed back from it and there fore will assume it
to be charged. These charges will only start charging if the battery on
the car is above 3-4 volts. I would suggest checking the charger on a
car battery that you know is OK to see if it charges this.

Does this seem plausible? I seem to remember that when I took the battery down to a specialist they said that it was only pumping out 2.6 volts.

Thanks.

It does sound plausible. I have a Halfords charger that won't charge a completely flat battery and an Optimate 4 that will charge pretty much anything.
