I need to change the CAS O-ring on my '90 MX5. I read on this forum that the job is easier with the rocker cover off. However I also read that I should torque the bolts on the cover to 43-78 inch-pounds which I think is around 3.5-6.5 Foot pounds which in turn converts to 4.74-8.8 NM.
I do have a torque wrench but it's range only starts at about 20 NM. I bought it years ago to bolt a head down on another car.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced torque wrench that will go down to these lighter torques.

Please please please do not ever use a torque wrench for this , most of the info on settings are to tight on the internet and will snap bolts.
Just Tighten them all up following the 1>14 and just go around again and just nip them up.

Just imagine the bolts are screwing into a block of cheese rather than aluminium - treat it carefully and it'll be fine. It's only an oil cover, nothing mechanical so no need for the bolts to be tight.

Don't want the torque wrench for that particular process but I do for some work on my Two Wheelers!!

I read this on the Miata forum.
"I have a 10mm socket on a 1/4" drive screwdriver handle type thing.... the handle is only half an inch diameter or so.... and I just do them up as tight as I easily can with my fingers gripping the handle....

I take the point, Lazza, about thinking of it as screwing the bolt into cheese. So my plan is to use a 1/4" Screwdriver socket and go round the sequence mentioned above a number of times, and not use a lever-style ratchet handle at all. I've also bought some silicon sealer. I guess the gasket is only soft rubber after all.
Does that sound OK to you?
