Postby Snoop_53 » Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:22 am

Good Morning Menders,

I have a problem with the floor of my mk3 getting wet and I think I know where the water is coming from, I just need a decent solution to stop it.

I will attach pics which will help explain further.

By replacing the winscreen cowl grommet and a new grille cap I seem to have solved the leak.

Posting this for any future users who come across this thread.

I got the parts from mx5parts.

Cheers

With this crappy weather we are having I am pleased you got it sorted.

With never having owned a Mk3, I wouldn't have known where to start, amazed a fellow Mk3 owner didn't shout up with a solution earlier.

I cannot be everywhere and do everything, i'm good but not that good, the leak is a common fault with the 3's , you had already solved it before i could answer so i did not see the point of replying with a repair, which most use a blob of clear sealant and screw the skuttle screw back down, but we always welcome how to's from fellow menders buddy, so thank you :bow-yellow: .

Dont worry MM, the fact you never replied meant I had to actually do a bit of research myself. Which is only a good thing.

Hopefully it can be used for reference in the furture.

I had seen this and had heard before about a grommet somewhere that leaks but didn't know enough to really help and I didn't want to mislead you so thought it better to not reply

I didn't know MX5parts did replacement grommets, I'll pick some up, as I had this issue also, and just used bathroom sealant to stop the leak for now.

Bit of an old thread to resurrect, but I thought I'd share a picture of the cause of the water leak in the foot wells on a MK3.

The seals around the clips that hold the windscreen scuttle panel screws perish, causing the water to leak in, the clips are cheap enough to buy from MX5 parts and replace but, to do a belt and braces job, you could always seal around the clip with some sealant to keep it water tight.

It's important to make sure you cure a leak on the passenger side as that's where the ECU resides...!!

Hope that helps.
