Happy with that sir, i'll add on the end to cover the 1.8cc and MK 2/2.5's, i think Nick covered the 1.8 ? with the hinge bolt up grade.
Locking it in as a sticky to be sorted and added soon to the how to's. :handgestures-thumbup:

Just read the write up on MK1 1.6 alternator removal.

I would just add a few comments from my experience of multiple removals/refits on my 1997 MK1 1.6 and other halves 1991 Eunos 1.6.
It should be possible to remove the alternator without touching the coolant, hoses, rad cap, etc. Just remove the crossover pipe and the alternator can be threaded out of the car on the left hand side.
I remove the pivot bolt(14mm) and adjuster(12mm) and then remove belt from alternator before disconnecting electrics. This gives better access. I also refit electrics before remounting.
There is a washer insert that fits into one of the pivot bolt mountings on the alternator. You have to tap this in a few mm with a hammer to allow extra width and easily clear the engine alternator bottom mount. This will all tighten up with the pivot bolt.

Pivot hinge washer should already be fixed on the alternator arm ?

It is there but not fixed as such. moves under tension when the pivot bolt is done up to take up any space between it and the engine mount. Easy when alternator removed to tap it further into its recess in the wing to allow for easier refit with the gap widened.
